As an advocate for music education, Joseph Conyers is both the founder and the executive director of Project 440 - an organization that helps young people use their interest in music to forge new pathways and change their communities.

Through this program, schools across Philadelphia are represented as students come together for the opportunity to perform together and learn from an incredibly talented team of teachers, coaches, and conductors. As a collaboration between the Philadelphia Orchestra, The Mann Center, The School District of Philadelphia, and Projecte 440, The All City Orchestra Summer Academy will be occurring virtually this summer.

As an active member of a world renown orchestra, he performs to the highest standards while creating socially conscious programs between the Philadelphia Orchestra and the community around him.
Joseph Conyers will serve as Artistic Advisor and Artist-in-Residence for University Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists instrumental programs. Through these roles he will serve as a mentor to incoming students and help develop the curriculum for the upcoming summer program. As an attendee of the Young Artists Orchestra in 1998, and a Visiting Artist in 2018, Conyers has first hand experiences with the power this program has to change a young artist’s life.
