For over five years, Joseph Conyers has acted as the director of the All City Orchestra, a collection of the best young musicians from the School District of Philadelphia. Through this program, schools across Philadelphia are represented as students come together for the opportunity to perform together and learn from an incredibly talented team of teachers, coaches, and conductors. Joseph H. Conyers was appointed assistant principal bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra in 2010 and has been acting associate principal since 2017. As an active member of a world renown orchestra, he performs to the highest standards while creating socially conscious programs between the Philadelphia Orchestra and the community around him.
Joseph Conyers will serve as Artistic Advisor and Artist-in-Residence for University Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists instrumental programs. Through these roles he will serve as a mentor to incoming students and help develop the curriculum for the upcoming summer program. As an attendee of the Young Artists Orchestra in 1998, and a Visiting Artist in 2018, Conyers has first hand experiences with the power this program has to change a young artist’s life.Learn More
